Exodus is my favourite thrash band and today I want to feature 2 of their epic songs "Architect of Pain" and "Like Father, Like Son". "Architect of Pain" is a hauntingly sinister telling of the Marquis de Sade. The intro is eerie leading into some of Gary's more darker riffs. And only Souza can capture, sincerely, the morbidly disturbing morality of such a subject. Clocking in at 11 minutes, the song never gets dull and never loses any of the dark atmosphere. This is the pinnacle of epic thrash metal.
"Like Father Like Son" is an 8 minute epic about domestic violence. Again Gary shines with emotive riffwork both heavy and fast and never sacrificing melody. A dark subject like this needs a thrash band like Exodus to convey the seriousness. Again, Souza's venomous vocals deliver such passion and conviction that one can't help but get angry that domestic violence can exist. When he screams ~ Please Daddy, No More! ~ it will send chills down your spine. Especially towards the end of the song where he holds nothing back.
